The CSIR Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) posts — across CSIR labs and institutes — include a computer typing proficiency test. As per DoPT/CSIR guidelines, the required speed is 35 WPM for English medium and 30 WPM for Hindi medium.
Speed and standard
The 35 / 30 WPM standard corresponds to about 10,500 / 9,000 key depressions per hour on the basis of 5 depressions per word. The proficiency test is qualifying — it confirms you can handle the secretarial typing the role requires.
CSIR JSA uses the same DoPT typing standard as many central-government clerical posts, so practice for CSIR JSA also prepares you for EPFO SSA, KVS JSA and similar exams.
